Shreveport may not be the biggest or most popular city in the state of Louisiana. But, somehow, our hometown has become a staple in pop culture.

The Kid in the Stephen King novel The Stand is from Shreveport. We've been making international news a lot lately thanks to 50 Cent and his new G-Unit Films plan. We've been mentioned in tons of TV shows - from the Simpsons to Saturday Night Live to Cross.

Shreveport, for one reason or another, seems to show up in the Pop Culture world pretty often.

And then, of course the musical history. Typically, 3 main things come to mind when you think of Shreveport and music: Elvis at the Hayride, James Burton, and/or Lead Belly. But there's a lot more to Shreveport's musical history and connection than just those 3 things.

Shreveport's Unexpected Musical Footprint

James Burton, Elvis and Lead Belly are all awesome. But, there's a lot more to Shreveport's musical history than just those 3 legends. Indy rock band the Seratones are from here. The new drummer for Primus, John Hoffman, is from here.

The building Elvis left was here in Shreveport. Susie Q, the hit song from Creedence Clearwater Revival, was written in Shreveport by Dale Hawkins & Stan Lewis with the original version being recorded at the old KWKH studios. Sam Cooke wrote the incredible 'A Change is Gonna Come' after a particular hostile and race fueled run-in with Shreveport Police. And that's just a small smattering of historic musical events to take place in Shreveport. We haven't touched on Phil Anselmo becoming a member of Pantera here or Jerry Kennedy's impact on the musical universe.

Shreveport's fingerprints, good and bad, are all over the musical universe if you look deep enough.
