Shreveport’s Government Plaza to be Closed and Disinfected

Shreveport's Government Plaza will be closed tomorrow, August 5th.

No matter the business or building, anytime positive COVID-19 cases pop-up, changes must quickly be made. Our local government is certainly no different.

Recently, Government Plaza has been hit by another mini-outbreak of COVID-19 cases. Parish Administrator Dr. Woody Wilson confirmed that "several" city employees from the 5th floor tested positive.

The city says that those positive employees were immediately sent home and continued their work from quarantine. They also stated that all necessary cleaning and sanitizing measure were taken to each respective work station.

Now, they are taking another step to make sure everyone who comes and goes through Government Plaza will be as safe as possible.

In a press release sent today, the city has announced the plaza will be closed for an entire day of cleaning and disinfecting. Government Plaza will resume normal operations on Thursday, August 6th, barring any unexpected delays.

After the outbreak, the city was originally planning on only cleaning and sanitizing the 5th floor. Commissioners Ken Epperson, Steven Jackson and Stormy Gage Watts pushed to have the entire building completely cleaned. Epperson says when there was an outbreak on the 8th floor (Parish Government), the parish paid to clean the entire building.

Now it looks like the city is stepping in to clean the entire building as well.
