Louisiana isn't exactly known for its winter weather. You may or may not know this, but as a state, we get 0.2 inches of snow per year on average. To put that in perspective, only Florida & Hawaii see less snow than we do.

Even rarer than snow in Louisiana, is snow in South Louisiana. According to NOLA.com, the last time it snowed in New Orleans was over 15 years ago. So, 4-6 inches of the white stuff in places that rarely, if ever, see it...that's causing some serious issues.

And maybe, of everyone negatively impacted by the snowstorm, the New Orleans Saints are feeling it the most.

Snowstorm Delays New Orleans Saints Coaching Search

Earlier this year, the New Orleans Saints fired Dennis Allen. And, if we're being honest, the move was LONG overdue. Over 2 1/2 years, his record was 18-25. It's hard to keep a job in the National Football League if you're only winning 42% of the games you play.

So, the decision to fire Dennis Allen was an easy one. However, the choice on who to hire to replace him is a bit more difficult. A lot of franchises with a lot more cap room and roster flexibility are also searching for coaches. So far, two big names of potential candidates are already off the board - Ben Johnson was hired by the Chicago Bears and Mike Vrabel was hired by the New England Patriots. And, allegedly, the New York Jets really want to hire Aaron Glenn, so that could be a done deal if someone doesn't blow him away during his remaining interviews.

So, with every passing day, the chance to hire 'your guy' is getting a little smaller. Which is why this snowstorm is really screwing up the Saints plan. This week, the Saints were planning on multiple in-person interviews for their Head Coaching job. But, due to the winter storm, all those meetings have postponed and rescheduled. Which means they could lose out on the person they want to hire due to travel delays and issues outside their control.

Who Are the Top Candidates For the New Orleans Saints Coaching Job?

As mentioned above, the Jets are reportedly very interested in hiring Aaron Glenn to be their next head coach. But, according to a lot of reports on the internet, he's also one of the top candidates the Saints are interested in. However, his second interview (the first in-person one) with the Saints has been delayed due to the winter storm. So, hypothetically, if the Jets really want him, they could throw out a massive offer and steal him right out from the Saints' nose through no fault of their own.

According to Sports Illustrated, some of the other candidates the Saints are looking at include Joe Brady of the Bills, Anthony Weaver from the Dolphins, Mike Kafka from the Giants, Kellen Moore, interim head coach Darren Rizzi and former Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy.

But, again, the Saints aren't the only ones interested in these guys. You can't have in-person meetings with guys that are still active in playoffs, but delaying the process just pushes everything back - which, again, puts the Saints at risk of missing out on the person they really want or missing out on the opportunity to go through the full process with someone who may have been the perfect fit. A couple days could be the difference between hiring the guy you want and settling for a guy that you kind of like.

Derek Carr's Saints Career So Far

Derek Carr joined the New Orleans Saints in March of 2023. His first full season in New Orleans was filled with tough games, including a lot of hits on the quarterback. That led to Carr playing through injuries for much of his first season with the Saints.
