Just about every day of the year we are celebrating or observing something crazy.

For example, Saturday was National Underwear Day.  (Boxers or Briefs?)  Sunday was National Wiggle Your Toes Day.  Yesterday was National Raspberries 'n' Cream Day. (Now that one I can really dig--into.)  Today is perhaps the zaniest day of the year.

Tuesday, August 8th, is National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day.  Yep.  Put an elongated, green fruit on your neighbor's doorstep. (See, you learn something new every day--zucchini is indeed green.)

But don't do it out in the open; you have to do it surreptitiously.  Because if they saw you it would ruin the surprise?  Or would they just think you had lost your mind?

So, that begs the question: "Why would I want to sneak zucchini onto my neighbor's porch?"

Well, those who are of the gardening variety tell me that once zucchini pops up in your garden, it's like popcorn gushing out of one of those big poppers at the movie theater.  It just keeps popping until your plot is overflowing with the stuff.  So, you make zucchini bread, zucchini pasta, zucchini pudding, zucchini pizza--anything you can think of to make good use of it.  When you've reached the point where you've got zip for zucchini- riddance ideas, you sneak it onto your neighbor's porch.

Sounds reasonable to me.  If you'd like to sneak some onto mine, I wouldn't quibble. Zucchini stir-fried in a little coconut oil is delish.

Besides if it'll solve your problem with the little green zeppelins while helping you feel neighborly, I wouldn't want to squash your enthusiasm.
