Support the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux this Sunday, February 5th at their Annual Pet Royalty Raffle
Northwest Louisiana's Krewe of Barkus and Meoux is known as the 'animal' krewe, but they prefer to be called a 'cause with a krewe.'
Barkus and Meoux helps our area animals and their owners in multiple ways through their feral cat program, offering emergency assistance for vet bills, their low cost spay and neuter program, funding and grants for area rescue programs and their fund dedicated to helping retired military working dogs. Over the last year, they've provided over $17,000 in assistance.
That's where you come in. The money for these programs just doesn't appear our of thin air. The Krewe of Barkus and Meoux hosts events throughout the year to gather the needed funding. This Sunday's Pet Royalty Raffle is one of those events!
Come to Rotolo's on East 70th Street in Shreveport starting at noon. Get something good to eat and vote with your wallet on who should be this year's pet royalty for the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Pet Parade Sunday, February 19th at the old Reeve's Marine in Bossier. The royal court will represent the krewe until the new royalty is crowned next year and royalty can be pretty much anything: dog, cat, rabbit, turtle, you name it.
Obviously, the headline is about raising money for the krewe and all of the programs they support. But I'd like to ask for your support personally to make my buddy Cyrus (pictured above) this year's King. Cyrus is at best guess, a Bullmastiff/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix that I adopted from Pet Savers Shreveport last August. I can't imagine our family without Cyrus in it. He's an absolute sweetheart and his story has had a fairy tale ending. I'd love to promote adoption in our area via my big boy!
Raffle tickets are just $1 and stuffing the ballot box is highly encouraged. The pet royalty will be announced at 3pm and I hope to see you there!
