Texas, Louisiana Teams Are Among Most Valuable Football Programs
College football teams bring in a lot of money, but those in the Lone Star State bring in the most.
In my humble opinion, college football is king. I enjoy high school games and find myself watching quite a few professional games, but it's college that really makes my heart sing. There's just so much passion in those games and it's contagious.
College football programs are also extremely profitable.
Recently, Forbes looked at the most valuable teams across the nation. Surprisingly the team that has played in three consecutive national championship games and even won two of them, failed to make in into the top three on the list. Alabama came in at number four.
Texas A&M took the top spot.
The Aggies garnered $148 million in revenue between 2014 and 2016. This came from alumni contributions, ticket revenue, royalties and licensing. The move to the SEC certainly didn't hurt.
They were followed by Texas with $133 million and Michigan with $127 million. Michigan actually tied with Alabama in revenue but beat them when it came to profit ($75 million and $59 million, respectively). LSU was able to crack the top 10 at number nine. They brought in $122 million.
Here are the top 10 most valuable teams:
