We see these guys overhead and they are the hometown favorite of the Defenders of Liberty Air Show. So let's test your knowledge.
I'll never forget the first time I heard a B-52 taking off from Barksdale Air Force Base. With no prior knowledge or warning, I would have thought the world was ending. However, the earth-splitting rumble and the familiar whistle of the engines are easily the sound of freedom to anyone who lives in the Ark-La-Tex. To those who live close to base, it a comforting thing to hear, even in the wee hours of the morning during night week. The B-52 is as much a neighbor in this area as the people who inhabit the buildings next to us.
So how well do you know your neighbor?
The U.S. Air Force Central Command just released a short video detailing some of the most jaw-dropping facts about the B-52, or what those familiar with this beast call "The Buff." With the Buff in heavy use during Operation Inherent Resolve for almost a year, a new generation of eyes have been on this aircraft. Yes, a new generation. The B-52 has been in operation for more than 50 years. It's size, range and carrying capacity make it one of the most invaluable and irreplaceable weapons in our military.
