What Will 2021 Mardi Gras Look Like in Shreveport?
We thought 2020 was the year of canceling everything. I for one thought that maybe, just maybe we could see COVID-19 numbers shoot down and give us the opportunity to celebrate Mardi Gras in true Shreveport fashion. Lousiana Governor John Bel Edwards announced that Louisiana will remain in a modified Phase 2 until February 10th. Fat Tuesday falls on February 16th this year which is considered the last day of the Carnival season. Do we have a chance of celebrating Mardi Gras in Shreveport-Bossier? Krewes all over the Ark-La-Tex have announced cancellations and are postponing events.
No Mardi Gras celebrations in 2021? We are missing out on the beauty and what I consider the biggest perk of living in the Bayou State. The elaborate balls where we all get dressed up and take the most epic profile pictures? No fun parades where we can start drinking at 8:00 a.m. No more sharing on social media the crazy throws that we picked up from the Highland parade. We need a silver lining when it comes to Mardi Gras and the pandemic.
What can we do as a community to celebrate Mardi Gras and be socially distant at the same time? Reverse Mardi Gras parades? Can we send Mardi Gras grams? Of course, we still have the magic of king cake and decorating our home everything Mardi Gras. What can we do to showcase the spirit of Mardi Gras?
