After waiving adoption fees for quite some time, Bossier City Animal Control has instated a new fee structure. They had been waiving adoption fees due to extreme overcrowding at the shelter. Alas, all good thing must come to an end. After all, pet food doesn't magically appear and electric bills, etc... don't pay themselves!

Some are speaking out about the new fee structure, saying it's too expensive, but I have to disagree. The adoption fees include at least the first round of shots, sometimes more, if you're dealing with a puppy or kitten. The fees also include heartworm testing for dogs and FIV/FeLV testing for cats, in addition to their rabies shot, or a voucher to have it done yourself. Pets are also already spayed or neutered at the time of adoption or you'll receive a voucher for that service as well.

After looking at all of that, you're probably thinking the adoption fees are several hundred dollars per pet and wondering how in the heck any of them will ever get adopted... however, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The highest fee is for purebred or 'designer' pets and that adoption fee is only $100. The adoption fee for all other dogs is $80 and $70 for cats. While I don't think everyone will be able to afford that, I do know that when you adopt a pet, you'll shell out way more than that in vet bills, etc... Just food for thought before you claim the prices are too high...
