Best Places to Go Swimming in Shreveport

School is out for the summer in Shreveport-Bossier, the temperature is above 100 degrees everyday, so everybody wants to cool off.

We've put together our 'Best Places to Go Swimming in Shreveport - Our Top Five' just in time to help you beat the heat. All of these are sure to be the perfect place for all ages to take a dip and relax during these lazy days of summer.

Bossier City Parks and Recreation Public Swimming Pools

The three Bossier City Parks and Recreation public swimming pools will open for the summer on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. The hours of operations at each pool will be:

Shed Road Community Playfield Pool - 4208 Shed Road
• Monday through Friday 12 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
• Saturday 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
• Closed on Sunday

Mike Wood Memorial Park Pool - 2200 Dennis Street
• Monday through Friday 12 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
• Saturday 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
• Closed on Sunday

Fort Smith Neighborhood Playfield Pool - 701 Coleman Street
• Monday through Friday 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
• Saturday 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
• Closed on Sunday

Daily public swim fees are $2 for adults and $1 for children. Individual and family season passes are also available at $35 (per person) or $75 (for up to a family of 4).

Four two-week swimming lesson sessions are offered at the Shed Road pool and Mike Wood pool beginning June 6. The fee for each session is $40. Applications along with complete schedules are available at the BPAR office, 3223 Old Shed Road and at both pools beginning June 1. Applications may also be downloaded from the Bossier Parks and Recreation website - www.bossiercity.org/Parks-&-Recreation.

The pools are open for the summer through July 30, 2011.

SPAR and Rock Solid Sports 2011 Summer Pool Schedules

Shreveport, LA, March 29, 2011: Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) and Rock Solid Sports are pleased to announce the 2011 summer pool schedule. For the third year, SPAR and Rock Solid Sports have partnered to provide public swimming, swimming lessons and water aerobics at designated SPAR swimming pools. The pools that will be open include Airport Park (6500 Kennedy Drive), Bill Cockrell (4109 Pines Road), David Raines (2920 Round Grove Lane), Querbes (3500 Beverly Place), and Southern Hills (1002 Bert Kouns). Registration is required for Swimming Lessons and Water Aerobics. Forms are available online at www.mySPAR.org (click on Banner) or at the respective recreation center.

All pools are open on June 4, 2011 through the summer.

Two different meal vouchers are available for your convenience. Just choose the best one for your group.

Option #1 – 1 Large Slice of Pizza, 20oz. drink and a cookie or 2 chicken strips and fries for just $4.95 per person plus tax.

Option #2 –Choose your own Combo - 2 Large Slices of Pizza, or Cheese Burger and Fries or 4 Chicken Strips and French Fries or Long Hot Dog and French Fries - All combos come with a 20oz. fountain drink and a cookie. $6.95 per person plus tax.

VALUE PACKAGE: Groups with over 40 guests that purchase meal vouchers will enjoy the use of Pavilion space appropriate to their needs FREE OF CHARGE. (Full catering is available please call for pricing information.)

A 50% deposit (based on estimated cost) is due at the time the reservation is made. Final cost will be determined and balance due is to be paid upon arrival. The deposit is fully refundable three weeks prior to scheduled event, 50 per cent refundable 14 days prior to the event, and nonrefundable less than 14 days prior to the event.

Red River Masters

Red River Masters welcomes swimmers of all ability levels that are over 18 years of age. They are very pleased to have taught more than 75 individuals how to swim competently since 2005 (when they started counting) as well as having several athletes setting local and regional records along with qualifying for the USMS National Top 10 and completing Ironman triathlons. Members swim in pools as well as open water!
