The 2026 NFL Draft took place over the weekend in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I've said for YEARS that Shreveport is an underrated sports town. We've produced some top level talent like Terry Bradshaw, Tre White and Jerry Tillery...just to name a few.

This year, we didn't have as many Shreveporters drafted as we've had in previous years, there's still some pretty cool local stories coming out of Draft weekend.

Former Captain Shreve Gator Kendrick Law was taken in the 5th round by the Detroit Lions. While Law didn't put up huge numbers at the college level, he's an absolute freak of nature...and the Lions have a track record of taking those kinds of guys and turning them into household names. So, pretty exciting stuff there.

But, Law isn't the only local joining an NFL roster. It was announced that a former Byrd Yellow Jacket signed an NFL contract as an undrafted free agent.

Former Byrd & TCU Lineman Signs Deal With Browns

In the NFL, sometimes, the class of Undrafted Free Agents are just as important as the guys they take in the actual draft. Kurt Warner, Priest Holmes, Drew Pearson, Wes Welker, and Antonio Gates were all undrafted free agents that went on to have legendary careers.

So, to get signed in any capacity is still kind of a big deal. Which is why this is pretty exciting news for the Byrd Yellow Jackets. Byrd announced on their Facebook page that Former Byrd, LA Tech, and TCU offensive lineman Carson Bruno has signed contract with the Cleveland Browns.

If the name Bruno sounds familiar, it probably should if you have any connection at all to Byrd High. He is the son of teacher & coach Lindsey Bruno. And before you ask, yes - Coach Bruno is the offensive line coach.

Here's what Byrd had to say about the deal:

We have a Yellow Jacket in the NFL! Congratulations to Carson Bruno, son of C.E. Byrd teacher Coach Lindsey Bruno, who signed an undrafted free agent contract today with the Cleveland Browns. Bruno started all 13 games this season for the TCU Horned Frogs. His first nine starts were at right guard before moving to right tackle for the final four games. Congratulations, Carson and Bruno Family!

Carson Bruno's Journey from Shreveport to the NFL

Carson was an absolute beast in high school. He was a 3 star defensive line recruit at Byrd High. He was named to the 2020 LSWA Class 5A all-state team and racked up 2 all-district team selections. During his 2020 senior year, he helped Byrd achieve a 10-1 record and before ultimately losing the state championship game.

Out of Byrd, he originally signed on to be a LA Tech Bulldog. His first year as a red-shirt freshman, he started all 12 games while helping the Bulldogs rack up 8 100+ yard rushing games on the season. His sophomore year at Tech, he showed off his ability and toughness. He, once again, started all 12 games while helping Tech rack up 100 yard game after 100 yard game...all while dealing with a broken hand for the majority of the season.

In 2024, his junior year, he transferred to TCU. He played in 11 out of 12 regular season games. He 663 snaps on the season - 597 on offense, 66 on special teams. His senior year, he showed off his versatility - starting 9 games at guard before being kicked out to the tackle position for 4 games. That TCU rushing offense was no joke in 2025, racking up 100+ yards in 9 out of their 13 games.

Now, he'll be working his tail off for a spot on the Cleveland Browns roster to protect whoever starts at QB for them this season.
