Seth Lugo’s Masterful Performance Against The Braves Signals A Massive Return
Former Parkway Panther, Centenary Gent, and Bossier Native Seth Lugo is looking for a bounce back baseball season in 2026. The local star struggled with injuries and inconsistencies during the 2025 season. He had 2 separate IL stints in 25, only made 26 starts, and went 8-7 on the year with a 4.15 ERA. Which is a far cry from his 2024 season, where he finished 2nd in the Cy Young and set career highs in several categories.
However, there was a lot of hope for Seth going in to the new season. He said he was making some adjustments in the off-season and planned on using the fastball more now that he's fully healthy again. Plus, his entire career is built on defying the odds - from getting drafted in the 34th round (which doesn't even exist anymore) to moving from the bullpen to the starting rotation, Seth has proved everyone wrong again and again.
Did You Know The Yankees Once Came to Shreveport?
And while it may take us a while to see what kind of season Seth is going to have, his first start of the year is something to give everyone a little hope. He opened his season for the Royals on Sunday March 29th against the Atlanta Braves. Not only did he turn in a Quality Start (meaning he went over 6 innings and gave up less than 3 runs), he limited baserunners and looked pretty dominant.
I know the "sexy stat" that everyone looks at is strike outs. And, if you go strictly by that, Seth didn't fare too well. He only had 3 punchouts on the day. BUT, everything else looked really solid. He scattered 5 hits across 6 1/3 innings with no walks. He was very efficient too, only throwing 77 pitches.
I get it's one start out of many, but if you're looking for signs that Seth can return to his 2024 form, his first start was a very promising one. His command was good, lots of weak contact, didn't let the Braves put much pressure on him...good stuff across the board.
So, way too early to say he's back. But, if he can consistently turn in these kinds of outings, then he's going to have a VERY good year.
