Could Louisiana Tesla Drivers Lose Their Insurance Due to Vandalism?

Teslas are on average more expensive to insure than other vehicles, even more expensive to insure in Louisiana where auto insurance is always high. With the sprees of vandalism happening across the country to Tesla vehicles in protest of Elon Musk.

Vandalism Runs Rampant

Teslas have been vandalized across the country as a way of protesting Elon Musk, the chairman of the Department of Government Efficiency.

If you've lived under a rock for the last few months and haven't heard of DOGE, basically Elon Musk was picked by President Trump to head the department and lead them to cut back on what they deem as unnecessary spending. NOLA protesters even got some shots in on someone's Cybertruck during Mardi Gras.

Detractors have laundry lists of complaints about DOGE and Elon, including the one time he may or may not have done a nazi salute, which is likely why many swastikas have been spray painted on Teslas in the last few weeks.

Insurance Could Get Bad For Louisiana Tesla Drivers

According to the last month, the average annual cost to fully insure a Tesla Model 3 jumped by over $100, all the way to $3,459. The national average when it comes to how much Americans spend on insurance, is $2,678.

It's about $781 more expensive to drive a Tesla than it is the average vehicle, and assumably it costs a lot more in Louisiana where car insurance is already high.

Insurance analyst for Bankrate, Shannon Martin, told Business Insider that the reason for the recent increase in Tesla insurance costs isn't related to the vandalism, at least yet. Martin said it isn't likely that insurance companies would drop Teslas or increase their premium over this vandal spree unless it continues through the rest of the year.
