According to KSLA, The Shreveport Police Department are gearing up for the next class of officers.

Ramussen College says that the following characteristics make up a good officer:

  • Compassion
  • A sense of humor
  • Attention to detail
  • Ethical and professional responsibility
  • Creativity
  • Self-reflection abilities
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • The ability to think critically
  • A sense of teamwork

I think that it takes a strong person to be a police officer, and I mean strong in not just a physical way. You have to be strong emotionally! If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend watching the document series "Flint Town" on Netflix. The show follows the current state of Flint through the eyes of the police officers and what they go through on a daily basis.

The show definitely gave me a new perspective of what it takes to be a police officer. Nonetheless, if you think that you are up for to be one of "Shreveport's Finest", as KSLA puts it, then you need to be prepared for some upcoming deadlines.

First thing you have to do is submit your application to become a police officer or a jailer by March 22, according to KSLA. Then you have to take the state civil service test which is scheduled for April 18th.

If you want to find out more information about becoming a police officer you can contact the Shreveport Police Department's Recruiting Unit at 318-673-7157.
