Elderly Louisiana Man Forced to Defend Himself Against a Squirrel
It's really no secret that Louisiana has some dangerous creatures. We've got venomous snakes, hungry alligators, spiders, possibly big wildcats, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a sasquatch or 20 lurking around in the woods right now, too. Apparently, mother nature doesn't think that's enough and has decided to throw us another wicked creature masquerading as a cute little woodland animal.
According to the report from the Sun Herald, a 78-year-old man was the victim of a vicious squirrel attack just outside of his home in Slidell, Louisiana. The unnamed elderly resident was reportedly "seriously injured" by rodent that reportedly launched itself at the man from his nearby roof.
Slidell Police responded to a call that a squirrel was "eating" the victim's hand, and when first responders arrived on the scene - the man was reportedly struggling with the beast. The official report reads:
The man was attempting to choke the squirrel, but was unable to obtain a good grip
The man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries, the squirrel was not so lucky. The wild rodent died as a result of wounds received during the battle. Luckily, officials don't suspect that the squirrel had rabies. They believe the creature may have become territorial and may have been "protecting" its nest.
According to Slidell Police, this is the second such squirrel attack this year.
