The state of Louisiana was just impacted by another historic hurricane. Last night, Hurricane Zeta made landfall near Cocodrie, Louisiana, before moving into New Orleans. The storm was a Category 2 when it made landfall.

When the storm ripped through Southern Louisiana, it took roofs, utility poles, and trees down. The storm even knocked out power to Bourbon Street...

While the storm was approaching, Star Trek & Reading Rainbow star (and former Geek'd Con guest) LeVar Burton was in the city of New Orleans, preparing to ride the storm out. Burton posted  an image on his Twitter of the storm coverage on WDSU that he was watching.

He added the hashtag "my first hurricane" to the post, acknowledging that Burton had never experienced anything like this before.

The storm was packing winds over 100 MPH, and a deadly storm surge. The City of New Orleans had been warning residents of the dangers the storm was bringing to the city. It knocked out power all across southeast Louisiana, with thousands remaining with out power this morning.

Burton did deliver an update to his Twitter during the storm, and another this morning. First he responded to someone who Tweeted at him to "stay safe" during the storm...

Then this morning, Burton responded to a direct question about the storm, and if he was alright.

Which is great news, and will be well received in Shreveport. LeVar Burton has a lot of life-long fans in our area, and created some new ones in 2019 when he came to Shreveport for Geek'd Con. He appeared at the event for 2 days, and met thousands of local fans. Even wearing a Shreveport Mudbugs jersey while taking pictures with fans all day.
