An eight year old child was left alone in the parking garage next to the grassy area where my family, along with many others gathered to light up sparklers and watch the fireworks last night.

Jakebrian Jones, 28, of Carthage, Texas is in jail after Shreveport Police arrested him for leaving a child alone in a car while he gambled. According to police, casino employees at 451 Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway discovered a child in the parking garage alone at 9:20 p.m. Shreveport Police patrol officers, casino security officers, and investigators with the Shreveport Police Department’s Youth Services Bureau worked for two hours trying to find a guardian or parent of the eight year old child with no success. Originally, the department of Children and Family Services was given custody of the child. However, later the mother was located and the child was released to her.

Jakebrian Jones was located inside of the parking garage at 5:20 a.m. trying to find the child. Investigators took Jones into custody. After Jones was interviewed by investigators, they determined that Jones left the child in the vehicle so he could take part in gaming activities inside of the casino. Jones was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of Child Desertion.

The thought of this poor child being left alone in a car for so long just so a man could gamble has me beyond livid. That child should have been out enjoying a firework show not stranded inside a car alone in a casino parking garage. If Jones is guilty of what he has been charged with, I hope this poor child is never left in his incapable hands again.
