Before Geek’d Con: 3 Nostalgic Films Shreveport Needs to Revisit Now
Geek'd Con is back for its 10th year around, and it's not just Shreveport's favorite comic-con that's getting older, but we are too. Before the doors to the convention center swing open, get into the Geek'd spirit with these nostalgia-filled classics. You'll be able to meet the stars from each of these three movies at Geek'd Con in Shreveport this August.
Movie 1: The Sandlot (1993)
The first of our throwback movies is possibly the most well-remembered and most quoted on the list. Patrick Renna will be in Shreveport for Geek'd Con 2025, most well-known for his role as Hamilton Porter in The Sandlot. The 1993 feel-good movie continues to receive new reviews that praise it as one of the most lovable films of all time. The Sandlot is available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+ if you have a subscription that includes Hulu.
Movie 2: Mallrats
Kevin Smith's cult classic run of movies started with Clerks, but his first feature film of the "View-Askewniverse" deserves a spin before this year's Geek'd Con. Shreveport will be host to Jason Lee, Jeremy London, and Ethan Suplee, three of the stars from Mallrats.
In the past, Geek'd Con has featured other actors known for Kevin Smith films, including Jeremy London, who is making his second appearance at the 318. Mallrats is currently not available on streaming, but is up for purchase or renting on services like Amazon Video.
Honorable Mention: Star Wars: Episode II + III
To keep this list from getting too long, we're sticking to only three suggestions, but we had to sneak in this honorable mention, well technically two mentions. Amy Allen is a part of Geek'd Con's 2025 lineup and is credited for her work on Star Wars.
Amy Allen was picked to bring Jedi Knight Aayla Secura to life for Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. Amy has four separate characters in Star Wars, three of them are supporting characters: Lela Mayn, Mya Nalle, and Yma Nalle (all of the names are anagrams of Amy Allen's name). You can watch Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 on Disney+.

Movie 3: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The oldest film on the list is the 1990 action-adventure hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The stars of the original TMNT film will be at Geek'd Con's 10th anniversary show in Shreveport. Ernie Reyes Jr. (Donatello), Brian Tochi (Leonardo), Robbie Rist (Michelangelo), and Kenn Scott (Raphael) brought the four reptilian crime fighters to life to take down Francois Chau's Shredder. Chau, Reyes, Tochi, Rist, and Scott will all be in Shreveport this August.
The original TMNT movie still gets praise from fans. It's not an all-time classic by any means, but fans who enjoyed the darker themes of the original comics find this movie to be a faithful adaptation of the Turtles. You can't find the movie streaming anywhere, but it is available for rent or purchase on Amazon Video, YouTube, and more.
