Louisiana Crowned as One of the Least Eco-Friendly States
Louisiana has had some problems with keeping the state clean and green, going as far as recently launching an anti-litter hotline in an attempt to combat litter problems. Well, a new study from WalletHub doesn't help the state's appearance as it shines more of a light on Louisiana's environmental problems. WalletHub released a study in which each state is ranked based on how eco-friendly they are.
Out of all 50 states Louisiana landed at an overall 49th place, meaning Louisiana is the second least environmentally friendly state in the country, only beating out West Virginia as the least environmentally friendly state of all. The most environmentally friendly state was determined to be California, despite the state being one of the biggest consumers of fossil fuels. Of the seven factors contributing to each state's score, Louisiana ranked as one of the worst in two of those categories and tied for worst in one of them. The Boot Shaped State landed at 49 of 50 when it comes to LEED-Certified Buildings per Capita, meaning the majority of buildings in the state fail to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design qualifications.
Once again Louisiana lands at 49th place, beating out only Delaware in the category of renewable energy consumption. Louisiana's ranking so low can be chalked up to our dependency on oil, as Louisiana ranks in the top three of states using the most fossil fuels. Tied for last place Louisiana shares the bottom spot on the list of highest energy consumption per capita. Louisiana shares last place with Wyoming, North Dakota, and Alaska. Almost a little odd seeing the furthest north state sharing a spot with one of the most southern states.
