Initially, scientists at the CDC didn't believe that the virus that causes COVID-19 could be passed from humans to their pets.  Now, after a few surprising reports and one very sad death (RIP Buddy), the Coronavirus connection between humans and their pets is becoming more clear.

According to WWLTV, this sad phenomenon has hit close to home with the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in man's best friend in the state of Louisiana.  The confirmation reportedly came from a nasal swab test conducted on the animal.

Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain issued a warning for people not to overreact about this news and abandon their pets - but he did go on record concerning the issue:

"Initially, it was believed pets could not get the disease, but the Centers for Disease Control is now learning that animals can be infected.  It appears that people with COVID-19 can spread the virus to animals during close contact.  It is important for people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 to avoid contact with pets and other animals to protect them from possible infection. At this time, routine testing of animals is not recommended.  If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, allow a family member or close friend to care for your pets."
