The COVID-19 crisis has caused massive economic destruction across the United States, but maybe nowhere as much as here in Louisiana. Our state has felt the impacts in some of our biggest industries, including the oil & gas industry, tourism, and crawfish season.
Personal finance website Wallethub has put research together to identify which states are being hit the hardest by COVID-19. Their research team included 6 professors from leading Universities. They used two key metrics, the Increase in Number of Unemployment Insurance Initial Claims in 2020 vs. 2019, and the Increase in Number of Unemployment Insurance Initial Claims in 2020.
Based on their research, Louisiana ranks as the #1 State in the Country with the Biggest Increases in Unemployment Due to Coronavirus.
