Amidst COVID-19 and the Governor's executive order prohibiting public gatherings of more than 250 people through at least April 13, it's quite likely the 2020 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival will announce a rescheduling next week.

Jazz Fest 2020 is still currently set to start April 24. While that may be 11 days past the executive order prohibiting public gatherings of 250 or more, it's probably a little too close for comfort for spectators, artists, vendors and all involved.

Hopefully the solution will be to move Jazz Fest to a later date and not to have to cancel it.

NOLA.com speculates the festival will be moved to October. They site a few examples as to why October looks to be the likely target.

On Friday, the French Quarter Festival announced its postponement from April 16-19 to Oct. 1-5. That's one indication of what Jazz Fest might do.

AEG, Jazz Fest’s co-producer, has already moved two of its other major events, the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals in southern California, from April to October because of the coronavirus pandemic. So a playbook for a seasonal festival flip-flop exists.

Makes good sense to me, and I certainly hope the good folks at NOLA.com are right.

We should all find out next week as an announcement from Jazz Fest about their plans is expected.
