In a story we first learned about from KSLA, a professor at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches recently published a comment on Governor John Bel Edward's Facebook post regarding the current state of affairs COVID conditions that has set the wheels in motion for her immediate departure from the school.

KSLA reports the comment read as follows:

It is so infuriating that those selfish people who refused to get vaccinated let the Delta variant incubate among them, and now we are all in danger again. We just learned that our university must be masked again this fall and I imagine all social gatherings will again be cancelled. At this point, vicious as it sounds, I wouldn’t care if every unvaccinated person died.

In response to the hurtful, mindless comment, on August 2, Northwestern State University posted the following comment to their Facebook page.

Subsequently, yesterday, August 3, after the backlash began to unfold due to the comment, it was announced that the professor would be taking a leave of absence from her position and when her leave expired she would immediately retire.

And though, no one has ever officially identified the professor in question, the university did include a specific professor's name in their final Facebook post regarding the matter:

Dr. Greg Handel, Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Northwestern, stated, “This is a personnel issue, and the university will have no further comment on the matter.”
