The Louisiana Department of Health announced on Monday that there was one new case of Multisystem Inflammation Syndrome in the state last week.

That's a bit of good news as that represents a decline in the rate of diagnosis. The week prior, the state saw three new cases.

MIS-C, as it is called, is a potentially fatal condition affecting children and is believed to be linked to COVID-19.

The syndrome can cause different body parts to become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs.

With the new case, that brings the total number treated in Louisiana to 17.

One child has died. All others have been treated and released, according to the health department.
