I've never been shy about professing my love of Louisiana comic book creator Rob Guillory. I've said it once, and I'll say it again - he's a good guy, a really good human, and a GREAT artist. Whether he's drawing, writing, or doing both at the same time, he just has this knack of building believable & relatable worlds around truly outlandish and unbelievable ideas. The man is gifted.

Chew & Farmhand are absolutely brilliant. If you haven't read them or you're not familiar, I can't recommend them both enough. With all that said and out the way, the Lafayette native just shared some HUGE news that's got pretty excited!

Sounds Like CHEW Could Finally Be Making Its Way To TV

At this point, we've all gotten used to the idea of comic book TV shows and movies. There's the Marvel & DC blockbusters of course. But, then you have shows like the Walking Dead, Invincible, Revival, and countless others that started as independent, creator owned content that was picked up and turned into major franchises.

One property that I thought was ready made for television is Chew. Look, I get it, I'm clearly biased and a huge, huge fan. But, taking myself out of it, Chew is a pretty important piece of work. It won Eisner Awards, Harvey Awards, it is one of the most successful creator owned books of all-time...and it's so unique and inventive, there's nothing else like it on the market. Which is a rarity in today's world.

Way back in the day, Chew was going to be turned into an animated series starring Steven Yeun and Robin Williams. However, Robin Williams passed away during production and the project just never came together or saw the light of day. Well, now, it seems like Chew is getting a second chance at life.

According to a Facebook post from Rob Guillory, Chew is back in development. Rob shared the following on the social media platform:

FUN FACT:
My comic CHEW is officially in development for live action TV at Blumhouse Productions/Atomic Monster.

At the time, no other official confirmation has been made about the project.

Chew Is Back in Comic Books

If you love Chew as much as I do, the potential TV show isn't the only good news we've gotten recently. After 60 full length comics (with some cross-overs and one shots mixed in), Chew is back in comic books! This time, Chew isn't being released as a monthly comic book.

Rob and John Layman are throwing it back to the days of newspapers and magazines and releasing Chew as a serialized, one-page comic strip being released monthly and the new Comics! The Magazine.

Tony Chu and company are back for a new adventure. Comics! The Magazine is still really new, so if you missed the Chew revival, you're only 3 issues behind so far. And, for the low price of $2.99, you won't break the bank trying to catch back up.

More from Rob Guillory & John Layman

We've talked about Chew a lot and for obvious reasons - there's a lot of noteworthy stuff going on with Tony Chu & company. However, that's not the ONLY comic book news from Rob & John. The dynamic creative team behind Chew have teamed back up for a new project!

Ghostbrawler is the brand new comic on the way from Layman & Guillory. And, this story sounds almost as weird and fascinating as Chew (would you expect anything conventional from these two? I think not.). The story will follow Joey Frezzini, a boxer who dies...and in the afterlife, beats up on unwanted ghosts haunting houses or causing issues. The unique idea definitely has my attention.

The book will launch with a Kickstarter before moving into a full series on Image. You can get all the details on the Kickstarter campaign on Rob's Patreon account here. The campaign is scheduled to launch May 19th 2026.
