Shreveport YMCA and Lifeshare Helping Child Battling Leukemia
I am a huge fan of the YMCA. Growing up the Y was one of the only places that we were able to go to take advantage of all the free community events. In my mind, the YMCA is driven by heroes and nothing has changed. I'm still a huge fan of the YMCA and the one right here in Shreveport is making headlines for the best reason ever.
The NWLA YMCA teamed up with LifeShare Blood Center to host a blood drive to help a child in our community who desperately needs our help.
According to Arklatexhomepage.com nine-year-old, Jude Elmore has had to go through 14 grueling blood transfusions in the last 6 months. Elmore was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2019 and since then he has been going through treatment. The Account Manager for LifeShare Blood Center Philip Maxfield told Arklatexhomepage.com that for "every unit of blood collected they will pay $15 to Jude’s family.".
Unfortunately for many of us, we had no idea that the YMCA and Lifeshare were putting together this week-long blood drive. The blood drive wrapped up on Saturday, March 27th. If you're like me and want to help, the good news is that you can still donate blood.
Whoever wants to donate can go to Lifeshare's Blood Center at 8910 Linwood Ave, Shreveport, LA 71106 in Shreveport. When you do go make sure you tell them that you are there to donate for Jude Elmore.
