This Shreveport Kitten Was a Sad Reminder for All of Us
My Heart is Broken Today Because of the Death of a Kitten.
My dog Olive and I were out walking in downtown Shreveport when he heard meows coming from an AC unit. I remember being scared thinking there would be a kitten stuck inside a unit and how could I possibly rescue it. My dog Olive sniffed out a scared kitten and I scooped it up and took the little guy home. This little guy was around 3 weeks old and was desperate for help.
The kitten was covered in fleas and wouldn't stop shaking. I bathed him and kept him warm, but I couldn't get him to eat. I was hoping that this little guy just needed the magic touch of Dr. Davis at Caddo Animal Clinic and he would be fine.
I took the kitten to the vet after 24 hours of not being able to get him to eat. The little guy was so frail and I was worried he was too weak to eat and we just needed to feed him and hydrate him. Unfortunately, this little guy crossed the rainbow bridge shortly after arriving at the vet's office.
We have so many stray animals in Shreveport-Bossier. What if we all made to commitment to spay and neuter every pet that we come across? This kitten was the third kitten I have found in the last 8 weeks. How is that even possible? We have so many animals that need homes and it starts with us spaying and neutering our pets and not adding to the problem.
