Mahatma Gandhi once said, "A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members."  If that's true, let's hope Governor John Bell Edwards plan for  emergency funding works.  Otherwise, 37,000 nursing home residents who rely on Medicaid to pay for their care could be receiving eviction notices as soon as this week.

The problem stems from the new budget passed this week in the Louisiana House of Representatives.  The deep cuts enacted by this budget will slash funds needed for statewide health care.  WGNO reports that these cuts are a direct response to the half a billion dollar budget shortfall Louisiana is currently facing.

With this horrible tragedy looming for so many of our senior citizens, Gov. Edwards is asking that legislative session end early so that they may convene a special council in hopes of approving an emergency measure that would keep these folks where they are.
