Shreveport's comic con, Geek'd Con, is one of the fastest growing events in the Ark-La-Tex. Gathering more than 10,000 geeks at the Shreveport Convention Center every year. But that won't be happening in 2020.

The announcement was made today on the Geek'd Con Facebook page. Here's what was posted:

Dear Geek'd Con friends and family,

As you are all aware, many live events and large gatherings are not going to be possible in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In mid-March, we took a "pause", and at that time we let you know that we were still on track, things were business as usual, and we were closely monitoring the situation while keeping in contact with local officials with the Louisiana Department Of Health.

This week, at the advisement of LDH officials, we have moved to cancel Geek'd Con 2020.

This decision was not made lightly. It was not made without stress, and constant scrambling to make every possible decision fit the situation as best we could. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience and further disruption of life as we’ve come to know it lately. But these decisions are made with the safety and health of YOU, as well as our guests, our artists, our sponsors, and our staff above anything else.

Some things are just bigger than this event.

Like many other industries are experiencing in these times,
decisions like this affects the lives, and livelihoods, of countless people. So, please, save any criticisms for another day, and keep the people in our industry, artists, guests, and the comic industry, in your thoughts.

At this time, we are prepared to announce that work on Geek'd Con 2021 is already underway. Our dates will be August 13th-15th of 2021. (Yes, that's a Friday the 13th)

We are working hard to secure as many of our announced 2020 guests as possible for the 2021 event.

Soon we will be contacting our vendors, and letting them know what our plans will be for our partnerships with them. Including options for 2021, including payments and discounts. So vendors, keep an eye out for an email this week that will be full of those details.

The event is set to return to Shreveport August 13th-15th in 2021.
