Winter Storm Damage? Self-Report as Soon as Possible

If you're dealing with damage caused by our recent battle with Mother Nature, it's important to self-report those damages ASAP.

If your home or business has been damaged by our winter storms, The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness wants to hear from you. They are hosting a survey now where Louisiana homeowners and business owners can report damages they sustained from winter weather. The information you're able to supply could lead to federal assistance.

Let's face it, last week was a one-of-a-kind week for Shreveport-Bossier. Granted, I haven't been around as long as some, but I can say with confidence that I've never experienced anything quite like that in Shreveport-Bossier. I was one of the lucky ones who escaped the winter storm without damage, but I've seen countless stories and pictures from around the Ark-La-Tex that showcase the flip-side of the coin. After the week we all just went through, it would be nice to get some help from the federal level.

Speaking about speeding up the process, GOHSEP Spokesperson Mike Steele says, "If people could take the time to do this survey and self-report some of the damage to their homes and businesses it would definitely help with the recovery process."

He also says that the quicker Louisianians self-report, the quicker they'll be able to determine which parts of our state received the most damage. He says, "It would give us a clearer picture of each particular region of the state and would help us in our decision-making process to determine what assistants may be available.”
