Famed fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, whose clients included everyone from actresses to First Ladies, died Monday at the age of 82, ABC News reports.

He most recently designed the wedding gown worn by Amal Clooney for her marriage to George Clooney last summer, and debuted his Spring 2015 collection at New York's Fashion Week in September.

Michelle Obama joined the long list of First Ladies sporting de la Renta when she finally wore one of his dresses to an event earlier this month.

De la Renta was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, but told the International Business Times last year that he was in remission and had no intention of retiring, saying, "I think every single day there is a learning process. For a long time...I wondered what would happen to the brand when I am no longer here. But I will be here for a very, very long time."

De la Renta was previously married to French Vogue editor-in-chief Francoise de Langlade, who died in 1983. He is survived by his second wife, Annette Engelhard, a son, Moises, and stepchildren from both marriages.
