Are you Anxious? Don’t Be Afraid to Speak Up
Mental Health, let's talk about it. No, really, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. How is your mental health?
When you're physically ill, you go to the doctor. You get treatment, your body heals, and you feel better. It's time to let go of the stigma surrounding mental health and do the same.
I know I'm not the only person who has struggled with anxiety and depression, but it's not something that openly talk about often. Why? Well, at this point I make an effort to focus on the positive things happening in my life.
I haven't always lived this way. I've had stuff, just like you have. Failed relationships, difficult work environments, family struggles, I've had them all. I know I'm not alone. Early in adulthood I talked to my doctor and took medication to help with the anxiety.
Over time, as I recognized the challenges in my exterior life, I was able to deal with them internally and come off the medication. Years later, I had another experience that was similar. I sought help, found relief, worked through my problems and overcame the source of the underlying anxiety.
We all have stuff. More recently, I reached out to a therapist and met with her a few times to discuss tools and natural ways to deal with stress. I'm so grateful I did.
She helped me prioritize self-care, and I changed my eating habits, began writing down what I was grateful for, I started meditating more frequently, and I fell in love with yoga. These things have greatly enhanced my quality of life.
If you're struggling, reach out to your doctor. Seek help, don't allow a stigma to prevent you for getting the care you need.
