Do You Feel Guilty When You Indulge in Self-Care, Shreveport?
I find this so incredibly sad! April is 'Stress Awareness Month' and I just read that 25% of us actually feel guilty when we treat ourselves to self-care despite how healthy it is.
Keep in mind, as I type this, I'm feeling kind of guilty myself for the money I plan to spend on myself this afternoon in the name of self-care. If you must know, I'm getting Xeomin injections at Premier Medicine. I know that a lot of people think women should be confident enough to age gracefully, but I feel better about myself with fewer lines on my face, and at the end of the day, the only person's opinion that matters is mine. I rarely spend money on myself. I don't have extensions, hair or eyelash, and my nails are hardly ever done, so this is something I do to treat myself.
Let's face it, life is stressful. Taxes are due, jobs are, well, work, and relationships can be tough to navigate. Add in all the other stressors we face on a daily basis like social obligations, family, kids, health, finances, etc... and things can get overwhelming quickly.
That's why I was shocked to find out that according to a recent survey, 1 in 4 Americans feel guilty when they indulge in self-care, despite its health benefits. Sadly, that same study from Advanced Dermatology says that over half of Americans report being burned out. I won't lie, I'm one of them.
While I can't wave my magic wand and make your stress disappear for you, I can offer up some recommendations and some reading materials. First off, you really should check out all of the facts and figures at ADVDermatology.com. The statistics they offer up regarding self-care are truly shocking. In short, we believe we should make time for ourselves, but for whatever reason, we don't. I'm thinking with Mother's and Father's Day around the corner, spa-type gifts are just the ticket!
FYI, it was just last month that I posted the following information from WalletHub.com.
Feel like you're constantly treading water? If you're stressed out, you're not alone. According to WalletHub, Louisiana is one of the most 'stressed out' states in the country!
Just how stressed out are we in Louisiana?
It turns out that Louisiana is the 2nd most stressed out state in the country, second to Mississippi. This seems weird to me because, in Louisiana, we're usually all about passing a good time!
WalletHub studied a number of stressors including average hours worked, the lingering effects of COVID-19, divorce, and suicide rates, as well as crime and health stats, to compile the list of the country's most stressed-out states. They found that Louisiana, on average, works the fifth most hours. We also rank 5th when it comes to the percentage of adults who are in poor health. This isn't looking very good for us, is it?
Stressed about finances? No surprise, Louisiana ranks 2nd when it comes to folks with the lowest credit score and for the percentage of people living in poverty. Louisiana is first when it comes to crimes per capita and third for divorce. We also happen to be the state with the fewest psychologists per capita.
Obviously, stress is a part of life. It's how you deal with it that counts. Stress can lead to a bunch of health problems so do what you can to alleviate it. After all, I need all the listeners I can get!
