Governor John Bel Edwards has announced that he is extending Louisiana's "modified" Phase 2 order. Despite an increase in cases and hospitalizations, the Governor has decided not to move the state backwards, which was rumored among political experts to happen.

However, Edwards said there is some hope in the numbers. The Governor says there are early indicators in the data that we are moving in the right direction as far as containing the spread goes. The Governor indicated that positivity percentages are improving which generally means that all other markers like hospitalizations and deaths follow.

So, the overall message from the Governor was that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. He stated numerous times that while there is an end in sight, but we're not there yet. He urged caution while celebrating Christmas and asked Louisianans to not travel but if they do to continue wearing a mask and to practice social distancing.
