Five years ago when the whole world shut down, a lot of people were lucky enough to be able to work from home. Here in Louisiana, people were loving the work-from-home lifestyle, and some companies even still provide work-from-home incentives.

Some cities like Austin, Texas still have nearly a quarter of the whole workforce still working from home in 2025.

But it seems that half a decade removed Louisiana is ready to move on from the work-from-home lifestyle, but why are people giving up this luxury of working while comfortable?

Louisiana Has Almost No Employees At Home

According to the U.S. Career Institute in a state like Colorado, 37% of all employed people there work at least one day from home, while Louisiana has only 13% of the population working at least one day from home.

This is backed up by a more recent study that found in 2025, Louisiana still has the second least remote workers at this moment. Only behind Louisiana for having the least remote workers was Mississippi.

Most of Louisiana seems to have skipped working from home, some of the biggest cities in the state has almost no rise in work from home after the shutdown. The U.S. Census Bureau says Shreveport, Lake Charles, and Alexandria saw less than 10,000 people pick up remote work after 2020.

Why Remote Work Is Nonexistent in The Pelican State

Thinking back five years the phrase "essential worker" was a common one, a job so important to how our daily lives work, during a pandemic these people still had to work. These workers had no option to work from home, from grocery stores to semi-trucks and the most basic jobs to the back-breaking blue-collar jobs there were people still clocking in daily.

For those who did enjoy working from home in Louisiana, it's obvious they likely don't anymore. Earlier this year Governor Landry said it was time for everyone to get back in the office, saying he's ready to sign an executive order to tell all state employees the same thing.
