Minden’s Witches Ride to Benefit Kids for Birthdays and Christmas
Why are grown women dressing up like witches riding around in bicycles and golf carts once a year in Minden, Louisiana?
The better question is why are they only doing this once a year? A Witches Ride came to be over 30 years ago in Seaside, Florida. Seaside resident Amanda Bacon and her friends decided to dress up like witches and rode their bikes to nearby Grayton Beach for fun. All of a sudden everyone in their community was curious and a fun bike ride turned into a fundraising powerhouse. Who doesn't love a blend of whimsy with philanthropy? These rides have become a thing all over America and they pop up during October.
The Pearls of Purpose is proud to bring the Witches Ride to the friendly town of Minden, Louisiana. The Pearls of Purpose is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization that was formed with the intention to bring family-friendly events to areas all across north Louisiana. All events will benefit a local community endeavor and charity. Luckily for us, this event was such a success last year that it has become an annual event for friends to come together, dress up, meet other community members, and raise money for a good cause.
The Witches Ride of Minden will feature riders on bikes, golf carts, and wagons, and some people will be there with mopeds, but all the women 18 and up will be dressed up like witches.
This year’s Witches Ride will take over downtown Minden on Thursday, October 24th. There will be a block party immediately following the ride at Millers Quarters. The organizers said, "We encourage spouses, kids, etc. to participate as parade watchers as well as join in on the festivities at the block party." The block party will include free jambalaya, a cash bar, music, and a kid's area complete with a screening of "Hocus Pocus", food trucks, a shopping market, and other fun festivities for the whole family.
All the money raised will go towards Webster Casa to provide birthday parties
and Christmas gifts for the children in the program. They have also partnered with the Webster Parish School Board to provide every first grader in the parish with a board-approved book for Christmas. If you want to join in on the fun or donate just click here for more information.
