Dating App Danger: Shreveport Grindr Encounter Ends in Arrest
A Shreveport man is now behind bars after a Grindr meetup took a dangerous turn. What began as a consensual encounter at a local park quickly escalated when Cartez Thomas allegedly pulled a gun on the victim and stole his car. Shortly after, Thomas led Shreveport Police on a high-speed chase, ultimately resulting in his arrest.
The Shreveport Police Department successfully ended the high-speed chase, leading to Cartez Thomas's arrest. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated flight from an officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer, possession of marijuana, illegal possession of stolen property, and various traffic violations. While Thomas's apprehension removes a dangerous individual from the streets, this incident raises serious safety concerns for many individuals actively dating and using apps in the Shreveport-Bossier area.

Is It Safe to Use Dating Apps to Meet People in Shreveport?
Several Shreveport residents have found love on dating apps like Bumble, Hinge, Facebook Dating, and Tinder; however, most people use extreme caution when meeting with new people for the first time. What are some dating tips to keep in mind when you're meeting someone for the first time?
Meet in a Public and Populated Space
Although these gents met in a park, according to the press release from SPD, a coffee shop like Rhino Coffee downtown would have been a better and much more safe option to meet someone.
Always Control Your Own Transportation to a Date
Although it may seem like a sweet gesture to have someone come pick you up for a first date, the safest thing is to drive yourself, use a rideshare like Lyft or Uber, or use public transportation.
Tell a Loved One Where You are, Along With a Screenshot of the Person's Profile
Not only do you want someone to have our location, but also make sure your trusted friend or family member has a screenshot picture of the person's profile. If you can, create some kind of safe word to text if you need help.
Stay In Public on Your First Date
Even if you met somewhere public, avoid going to that person's home or inviting them to your home. What if the date has taken off and you want to keep hanging out? Shreveport has multiple locations and things to do where you can stay in a public space.
Let's not let this horrid online dating story ruin dating for many of us in the Ark-La-Tex. Be smart, stay vigilant, and trust your gut.
