Joy to the world, or more like joy to Texas! One thing I hated about living in Texas is that there was always a wait to be able to get my hands on the hair of the dog.

We have all been there, right? You walk up to the counter set the booze on the conveyer belt to hear "I'm sorry you have to wait until after 12:00 to be able to purchase these."

I lived in Tyler, Texas for several years where I would have to sneak out of town, like 30 minutes out of town just to be able to buy beer. Luckily Smith County realized what a huge mistake that was and made it to where you could buy beer and wine Monday through Saturday.

One of the biggest wins I experienced when I lived in Tyler is when we all went to the polls in November of 2012 to bring beer and wine sales to town.

You have to understand this was huge for Tyler, voters killed a tradition dating back to 1940.

Yup, before the vote in 2012 the last time alcohol was sold in retail stores in the city was in 1940. Only 33% of voters opposed alcohol sales coming to Tyler, Texas. The second most annoying thing after we were able to purchase alcohol in Tyler was that we couldn't get alcohol on Sundays. Then it turned into we could get beer and wine but not until after 12:00 p.m.

All that changes this Sunday because of a new bill signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Texas will now allow all retailers to sell beer and wine starting at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. September 5th will be an exciting day for many Texans who are tired of waiting until noon on Sundays.
