K945 Turns 25 Years Old Today and We’re Feeling Thankful

On August 12, 1996, K945 was born and we've been your Hit Music Channel ever since.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. That's one phrase that immediately came to my mind when reflecting on K945's 25th birthday. That's a very long time in the radio business. It's even more amazing considering K945 is still doing the same thing in 2021 that we did back in 1996. Providing Shreveport with today's hit music, hosted by live and local radio DJ's. That is special combination, one that has kept K945 on top for a quarter of a century.

I remember growing up in Shreveport and listening to K945 every single morning. Back then, of course, it was called The Big Dog 94.5. Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty hosted the morning show together on the day the station launched, and they've been together ever since, so a happy silver anniversary to those two as well. Sure, they host the KEEL News morning show together these days, but they'll forever have a special place in the hearts of K945 listeners.

Throughout the last 25 years, many local radio DJ's graced the airwaves on K945 and helped make it the number one hit music channel year in and year out.

K945 had a slew of memorable morning shows through the years. I know you remember Chris and DeDe, Evan Harley's Morning Breath, AG and Shawn, the Morning Madhouse, and now, Chica and the Bald Guy. One morning show will forever hold a special place in my heart, though, and that was Bristol and Shawn. Nearly 14 years ago, it was Bristol and Shawn who allowed me to be on K945 for the very first time, and I'll always be grateful to them for that.

Outside of the morning, we've had numerous beloved DJ's help keep the tradition of K945 alive. One of my all-time favorite K945 DJ's was the incredibly witty Stu, who hosted middays. I'm sure you night owls remember your overnight host through the years, the legendary JB Foxx. Who could forget Stifler hosting the night show back in the day? Listening to his nightly party on K945 was one of the major reasons I dreamed of being a radio DJ myself. We've also had the extremely talented Jess Rowe on middays, and I know without a doubt every one remembers Erin Bristol's, "If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off" in the afternoons.

When I first interviewed with K945, as a Sophomore in high school, the interviewer asked me if I had any questions... I said, "Yeah, who is Lane Changer and can I meet him today?" Lane Changer, voiced by the late Danny Fox, will go down as one of my favorite radio characters of all-time, he was a wonderful character, played by an even more wonderful human being.

To make it 25 years without changing formats and staying true to the station's identity is no easy task, and it can't be done without extremely talented, hardworking, and like-minded individuals in the studio. However, for a radio station to make it 25 years, they'll need one more thing, and it's the most important.

You won't make it 25 years without having the most amazing listeners. Without question, THE reason K945 is still standing tall today is because we are blessed with the most loyal and loving listeners any radio station could ever dream of. So, on behalf of every single K945 radio DJ that has spoke to you before me, I say thank you for giving us the last 25 years. We absolutely wouldn't be celebrating today if we didn't have you, and we are grateful.
