Primus Drummer John Hoffman Gets His Own Day in Shreveport
In honor of a Shreveport native making it to the big leagues, Mayor Tom Arceneaux has dedicated a whole day of celebration for John Hoffman. On July 29th, 2025, the Mayor would declare the day to be John "Hoffer" Hoffman Day. Now, Shreveport will always have a day to celebrate John Hoffman's new world-famous drumming gig.
From the Shreveport Scene to the Primus Stage
John "Hoffer" Hoffman is well known in the Shreveport music scene, spending time as the drummer for a lot of different bands in town over the years. In all that time being the best drummer in Shreveport, he honed his skills, and when Primus needed a new drummer, they couldn't deny Hoffer's talent.
So when Primus picked Hoffer as the new drummer for the band, it became big news in Shreveport, and not too soon after, the band put Shreveport on their touring list. Before the Primus show at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium on July 28th, 2025, Mayor Tom Arceneaux put the city seal on John "Hoffer" Hoffman Day.
A Mayor's Recognition of World-Class Talent
Even though Primus probably isn't the music of choice for Shreveport's Mayor (sorry to assume, but Mayor Arceneaux doesn't strike me as the type to like Tommy the Cat or My Name Is Mud), he clearly understood how big an achievement Hoffer's new gig is for the city at large.
Primus had over 6,200 candidates to sift through for their next drummer, but Shreveport's favorite drummer outshone the rest. Mayor Arceneaux's proclamation even pointed out that Hoffer was "selected from over 6,200 worldwide applicants as the new drummer for the internationally acclaimed rock band, Primus."
